Engaging Distance Learners Through Project-Based Integrated Units at ASSOA

This webinar explores how project-based integrated units at ASSOA engage distance learners through authentic, inquiry-driven learning. Each unit is built around a central inquiry question, guiding students to explore big ideas across multiple curriculum areas. Through hands-on projects, real-world applications and meaningful connections, students actively construct knowledge.

Our approach is grounded in active learning and responsive educational theories, allowing flexibility in pacing, differentiation, and support to meet individual student needs. Integrated units incorporate Universal Design for Learning (UDL), High Impact Teaching Strategies (HITS), Talk for Writing (T4W) and The Writing Revolution (TWR) to ensure accessibility and engagement for all learners.

With a structured yet adaptable lesson flow, students move through guided exploration, scaffolded tasks and independent application which culminates in a final project that demonstrates their learning. By prioritising student agency, critical thinking and real-world connections, we aim to make learning engaging, relevant and responsive to the diverse needs of distance education students.
